Never underestimate the power of nostalgia.
This year’s Zoo Ball went “Back Zoo the Future” on November 9th, putting on a wildly successful fundraising effort with almost dangerous quantities of 80’s references. San Antonio-based cover band The Max played an assortment of classic hits while guests bid on such treats as naming the new baby hippo, spending the night in the newly renovated zookeepers’ house, and even a week’s vacation in Hawaii, ultimately raising the most money in the history of the event.
A Prince impersonator opened the show beneath an array of neon Slinkies before passing control to none other than Spurs fixture Chuck Cureau, who served as Master of Ceremonies. Gala chairs Sheila and Marko Barrett oversaw an electric, eclectic night of celebration, capped off by a recreation of the legendary Dirty Dancing scene of, well, dirty dancing.
But not too dirty, of course.
Keep your eyes peeled for the next opportunity to do your part in promoting conservation while having the time of your life. Trust me, you’ve never felt that way before.
Am I doing it right?
